Aussie Wine Month - Yabby Lake Vineyard Chardonnay

2013 Yabby Lake Vineyard Chardonnay

Taste…

Beautiful & bright with a pale lemon hue.

Lovely aromas of toasty oak with subtle stone fruit and dried green apple characters. A fascinating nose that continually opens up to express its complexity.

Elegant, delicate, lean, light, floral, and seriously enjoyable were descriptors used to describe the poised palate of this beautiful Chardonnay. A sense of battonage and fine French oak create an enjoyable and generous texture which is balanced by a creamy acidity, giving the wine a salivating finish!

“Very difficult to have just one glass” – Ross Dawkins (Stella Bella Winemaker)

Region…

The Mornington Peninsula is located south-east of Melbourne and is surrounded by Port Phillip bay to the west, Western Port to the east and Bass Strait to the South, creating the ultimate maritime climate, similar to that of Margaret River.

The southern location of the peninsula and the cooling ocean winds making it one of the coolest wine growing regions in Victoria. Vignerons in the region utilise the varied aspects, elevation, soils and microclimates of each subregion and source fruit from individual vineyards to create a unique site and varietal expression while optimising growing and ripening conditions.

The Yabby Lake Vineyards is located in the Moorooduc sub-region, which provides soils of sandy clay loam and north-facing slopes to capture maximum sunlight creating delicate wines with power and elegance.

Having a strong maritime climate similar to Margaret River, the Mornington Peninsula produces outstanding Chardonnay that has beautiful concentration, varietal expression and complexity. Providing winemakers with quality fruit that complements a range of winemaking styles and techniques.

Winery...

The Yabby Lake winemaking philosophy allows the inherent potential of each parcel of fruit to be realised. It is the careful and considered work in the vineyard from pruning to picking that determines the true foundation and character of each wine. Then, in the winery, each parcel is handled gently and thoughtfully to ensure winemaking techniques only enhance the potential quality of the resulting wine

Winemaker: Tom Carson
