A look at Stella Bella Margaret River’s Forest Grove vineyard

One of Margaret River’s most renowned wineries, Stella Bella, has five vineyards throughout the southern half of the Margaret River region, spread across approximately 80 hectares under vine. The region is known for its unique characteristics that make it the perfect location for growing grapes for winemaking. The climate conditions are ideal as well, giving the grapes a longer period to ripen, which results in excellent wines that have the right body, texture, aroma, and flavour. The climatic factors allows us to achieve tannin ripeness in the seeds and skins, which in turn lets us produce finished wines that do not necessarily have high alcohol levels.

Forest Grove vineyard in Margaret River

Stella Bella’s Forest Grove vineyard was first planted in 1998. It is located at Sebbes Road in Forrest Grove, and measures nine hectares. It is known for the quality of its soil – also called Forest Grove soils, which are made up of varying compositions of gravel, sand, clay, and loam, which achieves good heat retention, thanks to its high gravel content – with some darker karri loam at the southern end of the property. This composition allows for balanced vine growth, and more importantly, very high quality fruit production.

Furthermore, the vineyard is surrouned by karri and marri forests, so it is protected from strong, prevailing winds. The majority of the rows have a north south orientation, with the exception of the chardonnay and Semillon, which have an east west orientation. A mix of spur and cane techniques are being utilised with VSP trellising.

The Forest Grove vineyard produces wines of different varieties, including Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Semillon, and Sauvignon Blanc. The beautiful vineyard also consistently delivers high quality fruit that is suitable for even our high end Serie Luminosa wines.
