An impressive 22,000 Sydneysiders flocked to what was widely considered the best Taste of Sydney in partnership with Electrolux event in its eight-year history. Centennial Parklands set the stage for Sydney’s culinary event of the year with the city’s hottest bars and restaurants. Saturday night was a sell out with delicious dishes, live music, masterclasses and demonstrations by Sydney’s leading chefs.

The four-day food festival showcased one of its greatest restaurant line-ups yet with a selection of hugely successful newcomers including Three Blue Ducks at The Farm, Thievery, nel., Firedoor, Kensington Street Social and Salaryman. The dish highlights included prawn toast, the ‘Social Dog’, fried chicken and hot sauce and roasted pork belly with apple chutney.

Sydneysiders took full advantage sampling over 50 delicious signature dishes from returning favourites MoVida, Kitchen By Mike, Porteno, 4Fourteen and Otto including the schnitzel pig ear, Pinchitos Morunos and crispy brussels sprouts. Otto’s cocco panna cotta along with Thievery’s ice cream kebab were the clear favourites for those with a sweet tooth.

Best in Taste was awarded to Porteno for their charcoal barbecued octopus. Firedoor took second place with their Firedoor ‘fries’ (beans with romesco sauce) and Salaryman came in third with their prawn toast okonomiyaki. Porteno also won the Best Dressed award for their cool and colourful fit out.

Due to popular demand, Biota Dining brought back their 2015 Best in Taste dish, smoked taramasalata and charcoal cracker, for one day only on Sunday which proved to be another hit dish of the weekend.

Bennelong Bar’s secret garden hideout was the perfect place to escape from the crowds and enjoy live music under the starry sky with sensational cocktails including their signature negroni and lamington cocktail, exclusively created for Taste of Sydney.

Taste of Sydney’s Managing Director, Hannah Pike, said, “We were thrilled with yet another hugely successful turnout this year. We secured the dream restaurant line-up and Sydney foodies took full advantage of the great food that was on offer, in perfect weather conditions”.

Visitors enhanced their culinary skills during hands-on masterclasses at the first-ever Electrolux Chefs’ Secrets which was hosted by chef, Massimo Mele. The intimate masterclass experiences saw guests cook alongside their chef-idols to learn insider tips and tricks from Sydney’s most celebrated chefs. Peter Gilmore (Quay & Bennelong) showed guests how to make his red claw yabbies, buckwheat pikelets, cultured cream & lemon jam, while Colin Fassnidge (4Fourteen) taught people how to break down a sucking pig to create his famous pork with spiced slaw and pickles.

The enchanting South African Garden with its very own traditional drummers also featured special guests South African chef, David Higgs and South African MasterChef judge and chef of Tsogo Sun Hotel, Benny Masekwameng who’s signature food offerings and masterclasses over the weekend were a huge hit.

Chef Brendan Cato (The Farmed Table) hosted a selection of knife masterclasses in the Victorinox Chefs Skillery, sharing his very own tips and tricks for cooking, using Victorinox knives in the #UrbanOutdoors by slicing sashimi & serving with foraged plants. Visitors also enjoyed demonstrations from Rob Daniels (Kensington Street Social), Nelly Robinson (nel.) and Mark Best (Marque) plus many more.

Taste of Sydney will be returning in 2017, but for the passionate foodies, Taste of Perth is fast approaching (29 April – 1 May) and Taste of Melbourne is confirmed for later this year (10 –13 November).
